My work here is released under a Creative Commons BY-NC 3.0 NZ LicensePrior to May 2012, posts were back-dated to the time of their original pen-and-paper Diary entries and podcasts were given arbitrary dates so as to fit in a nice 'reading order' on the front page. It really was terribly confusing, eventually. Sincere apologies for the philosophy-headaches which resulted.
I'm still committed to back-filling the gap between the actual Diary and the blog, I've just stopped mucking with the dates and will occasionally intersperse much-more-recent 'topical' stuff when my journalistic impulses overtake my historian slowness.
My views are entirely my own, though anyone is more than welcome to agree with me.

Mac’s ‘Brewjolais’ 2008
Verbatim: Mac’s new(ish) ‘Brewjolais’, their stab at a pale ale. And it’s a delightful little success, you’d have to say. A tasty, zingy little aromatic number that I’ve definitely taken a shine to. Afterthoughts, October 2010: Not just a ‘pale … Continue reading
Three Boys Porter
Verbatim: Three Boys Porter. One of very-few good things about Christchurch, these guys make a lovely few brews, and the porter is an especially good way to end your evening. Afterthoughts, October 2010: Firstly, I can’t believe I actually drank … Continue reading
Orkney ‘Skull Splitter’
At last — he says, after a few days of data-entry — we arrive at the bit where the photo-taking habit begins in earnest. It gets a little patchy with the actual Diary for a while, but they’ll soon synch … Continue reading
Waiheke ‘Baroona’
Verbatim: Waiheke Island Baroona Pale Ale. 16/5/08, 330ml, $4.5, at work, auditioning. Gorgeous curvy bottle; good honest stuff. Nothing too unique. Bubbles vanish quickly. Drinkable and very marketable. If the contract wasn’t fucked, it’d make a great guest. Afterthoughts, October … Continue reading
Pilsner Urquell
Verbatim: Pilsner Urquell. 14/5/08, 330ml, $3. At work, trying to write a beer list for “Paris 2.0”. So this is an audition, really. Five stars in the bible. Good, flavourful pilsner. And it’s the original. So full marks. Too bitter … Continue reading
Duvel
Verbatim: Duvel, the gorgeously zesty strong Belgian ale. The name is just “Devil” in Flemish, but mostly because it weighs in around 8.5% booze. Afterthoughts, October 2010: A great beer in a pretty-good bar, on a freaking excellent night. And … Continue reading
Leffe Brune
Verbatim: A pair of Leffe Brune. Not both for me, honestly. Though I have always usually been more a fan of the Brune than the Blonde. So to speak. Afterthoughts, October 2010: Like a lot of these at-Malthouse but-not-working-at-Malthouse entries, … Continue reading
Westmalle Dubbel
Verbatim: Westmalle Dubbel. A fine example of a Trappist beer, them being the only thing to tempt me towards Religion. Afterthoughts, October 2010: That beer list made for a handy prop. Little did I know I’d eventually take over its … Continue reading
Badger ‘Tangle Foot’
So here we are again with the dear old Tangle Foot. I’ve put the fuller story earlier in these pages, filed under the date of its original entry in the physical Diary. For now, the point is that once I … Continue reading
