I hereby propose using the contents of various houses&#8217; recycling bins to triage potential people worth introducing yourself to.<\/li>\n<li>(19.30) A clever addition, this year, to the annual hop-fest that is Malthouse&#8217;s West Coast IPA Challenge was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/pages\/NZ-Amateur-Brewer-West-Coast-IPA-Challenge\/459211087491376\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">a kind of amateur \/ wildcard round<\/a>. Since recording, it&#8217;s been and judged and gone, with <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/ryanlcrawford\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Ryan Crawford<\/a> taking the gong. He now gets the chance to brew (this weekend) his beer on Baylands&#8217; kit to enter into the Main Event.<\/li>\n<li>(24.55) Baylands&#8217; debut beer was indeed a big American IPA \u2014 but not quite the batch they intended. We&#8217;ll get back to that in a bit.<\/li>\n<li>(25.30) <strong>Beer of the Week #2: Baylands Vanilla Imperial Stout<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>(37.40)\u00a0<strong>Recommendations:<\/strong> <strong>Black Dog<\/strong> is the first thing to Aidan&#8217;s mind, and I have to say \u2014 as a fairly strident Big Brewery skeptic \u2014 that it really is a pleasant surprise; outright D.B.-owned, but apparently still operating with near-total creative control in the brewers&#8217; hands, and a nicely-presented little bar \/ tasting room \/ off-license. And, in a weird coincidence, I was just talking about\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/philcook.net\/beerdiary\/2011\/04\/15\/8-wired-istout-ice-cream-float\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>iStout Floats<\/strong><\/a> the other day on Twitter \u2014 you all really, really, <em>really<\/em> should have one.<\/li>\n<li>(39.20) If you follow <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/NikCarmichael\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Nikki on Twitter<\/a> \u2014 and you still should \u2014 you&#8217;ll see a\u00a0<em>lot<\/em> of competition-related stuff, admittedly. It apparently pays off.<\/li>\n<li>(40.30) George&#8217;s recommendation:\u00a0<strong>Gunnamatta<\/strong>, still. (And fair enough!) Mine:\u00a0<strong>Renaissance &#8216;Scotch on Rye&#8217;<\/strong>, a kinda-sorta mini-Stonecutter; lovely.
