My Malthouse-colleague and friend Jono Galuszka wrote\u00a0<a title=\"'Pint-sized brewery opens in Wellington', on stuff.co.nz\" href=\"http:\/\/www.stuff.co.nz\/dominion-post\/capital-life\/5482888\/Pint-sized-brewery-opens-in-Wellington\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">a piece on the Garage Project for the\u00a0<em>Dominion Post<\/em><\/a>. It was the photographer for\u00a0<em>that<\/em> who was frustrated by the lack of &#8220;prop beer&#8221;. He was probably just miffed he didn&#8217;t get any &#8220;sneak peeks&#8221;.<\/li>\n<li>(3.50) The <em>Consumer<\/em> report is out now, evidently, in what is presumably the September 2011 issue. There&#8217;s <a title=\"'New Zealand-brewed beers: About our tasting', on consumer.org.nz\" href=\"http:\/\/www.consumer.org.nz\/reports\/new-zealand-brewed-beers\/about-our-tasting\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">a little summary online<\/a>, which does include an equally-little photo of our tasting panel &#8212; that&#8217;s me in the grey shirt; I was the only guy who didn&#8217;t show up with his own branding emblazoned upon himself.<\/li>\n<li>(5.05) Beers <em>so far<\/em>: #1 &#8216;Trip Hop&#8217; (pale ale), #2 &#8216;Manuka Dark&#8217; (smoked beer), #3 &#8216;Pernicious Weed&#8217; (pale ale), #4 &amp; #5 were A and B variants of &#8216;Hazy Daze&#8217; (new-hop-variety pale ales), #6 &#8216;Lord Cockswain&#8217;s Courage&#8217; (oaked, Belgian Porter) &amp; #7 &#8216;V.P.A.: Venusian Pale Ale&#8217; (multiply-infused pale ale), #8 &#8216;Hapi Daze&#8217; (pale ale), #9 &#8216;Golden Brown&#8217; (brown ale). We <em>are<\/em> four people with beers in our hands, after all. Back to &#8216;Hot Rocks&#8217;, I did manage to find <a title=\"'Making Hot Rocks Lager', on YouTube\" href=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=vSiWfOkECTE\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">the video that I mentioned which documents the making-of<\/a>; it&#8217;s pretty damn cool stuff. Stone &amp; Wood have <a title=\"'Stone Beer', on stoneandwood.com.au\" href=\"http:\/\/stoneandwood.com.au\/stone-beer.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">a write-up for their version<\/a> online, as well; I&#8217;m mad keen to try it. Also, <a title=\"'Turkey fryer', on Wikipedia\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Turkey_fryer\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Turkey fryers have their own Wikipedia page<\/a> &#8212; and are therefore totally &#8220;a thing&#8221;.<\/li>\n<li>(13.10) The comparison with <a title=\"'Software release life cycle', on Wikipedia\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Software_release_life_cycle\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">software releases<\/a> &#8212; particularly the difference between <em>open<\/em> and <em>closed<\/em> &#8220;beta&#8221; &#8212; is massively apt.<\/li>\n<li>(15.50) &#8220;This beer is good shit&#8221; <em>is<\/em> a great review, in both senses. Jos compiled a <a title=\"'This Garage Stuff is Good Shit', on garageproject.co.nz\" href=\"http:\/\/garageproject.co.nz\/post\/9063624576\/this-garage-stuff-is-good-shit\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">&#8216;word cloud&#8217; of the sum-total of feedback<\/a>; it&#8217;s an interesting way to see public opinion in a snapshot and they&#8217;ve been doing more, specific to different beers.<\/li>\n<li>(16.50) George was wondering, last time, whether my casual use of &#8220;shitfaced&#8221; in <a title=\"Beer Diary Podcast s01e04: Emerson's Bookbinder and Midstrength Beers\" href=\"http:\/\/philcook.net\/beerdiary\/2011\/05\/14\/beer-diary-podcast-s01e03\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">a discussion of midstrength beers<\/a> (i.e., those that can help stop you becoming so) was our first expletive. Pete&#8217;s nervous enthusiasm for brewing here really does put me to shame. We&#8217;ll have to figure out how to activate the &#8220;language&#8221; tag on iTunes.<\/li>\n<li>(19.00) <a title=\"Lazy Diary entry: Mac's 'Brewjolais 2008'\" href=\"http:\/\/philcook.net\/beerdiary\/2008\/05\/21\/macs-brewjolais-2008\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Brewjolais<\/a> really is sadly missed. A 2011 edition was planned, but brewing operations had shifted from Wellington to Christchurch, and the earthquake intervened. I spoke candidly to someone (who shall remain nameless for their protection <em>and<\/em> because my memory is, as you may know, rather rubbish) from Lion \/ Mac&#8217;s who assured me that enthusiasm for it as a beer remains among the staff, and that those of us in the public who miss it should write in and say so to help convince the marketing and accounting departments.<\/li>\n<li>(25.20) A &#8220;corny keg&#8221; is apparently (and charmingly) more-properly known as a <a title=\"'Cornelius keg', on Wikipedia\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Cornelius_keg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Cornelius Keg<\/a>.
